Franklin/Cowee Pair Transition, and Sunset

As of Sunday, 6/25/23, The NCPRN DMR Repeater on Cowee Bald has been changed from 444.200, to the new pair of 444.825. Please take time to adjust your radios to this new frequency as soon as convenient. You will note that the NCPRN website will also now reflect this change.

To prevent a service interruption to the amateur community and make this transition as seamless as possible, a backup repeater was installed temporarily on the old 444.200 pair. Both repeaters are currently functioning in tandem atop Cowee Bald. This temporary repeater is expected to have a sunset date of September 5, 2023. At that time the repeater on 444.200 will be taken offline, and the transition to the new 444.825 pair will be considered complete.

As I mentioned in my prior post, I will have a table at the Waynesville HamFest on July 29, and will do my best to make time for anyone needing assistance moving their radio to this new pair. If you have non-Motorola equipment and need assistance, please bring a laptop and programming cable with your software installed. There may be an opportunity for me to download your software for non-commercial radios, but with so many variables, I hope to work through a verified working package to save us all time. If you are not able to bring your own laptop, please stop by anyway (and bring a programming cable if at all possible)- and I will do the best I can. If you are interested in helping other HAM's adjust their frequencies, please stop by the booth and let me know what types of radios you are capable of programming and a contact number or frequency you will be on during the fest!

A big shout-out to the PRN Admin team, and you- the community- for your support, and continued use of the systems!
